Take a look at Luna's Character Design Process
I began designing Luna in October 2025 and first published her story in December of that year. But if I’m honest, I wasn’t completely in love with the result.
I wanted Luna to feel warmer, softer, and more like a character lifted straight from the pages of a hand-painted book rather than a digital vector. So I went back to the drawing board.
Using pencils and watercolour brushes in Procreate, I re-imagined her with a more natural, hand-drawn look. Once the artwork was complete, I moved into Canva to build each page, adding the text and finishing touches that would bring her world to life.
ILLUSTRATION PROCESS
This is the illustration with Luna and her new friend Jenny at school.
Each illustration takes me around 2-3 hours to create.
I use LuLu publishing to print and distribute my book. My book is sold here on my official website, LuLu Publishing, and online retailers, such as Amazon.
Book Page Layout
I create each page in canva, adding in text and my illustrations before saving as a PDF and adding to LuLu Publishing to be printed!

Dry Ink Pencil / 6B Pencil
Watercolour
Gouache
Inking
Script / Studio Pen / Tinderbox
Texture
Noise brush / Nikko Rull
Airbrushing (cheeks, glow effect)
